The Department of Fine Art at the Iceland Academy of the Arts (IAA) provides a productive and dynamic environment where students gain knowledge and training in contemporary fine art practice, with insights on both local and international perspectives.
The IAA is a self governing institution providing higher education in it´s five departments of design and architecture, performing arts, music, art education and fine art. The objective of the Department of Fine Art is to be a leading force in fine art instruction and an open venue for research and debate. The Department offers a three-year, 180 ECTS, programme leading to a BA degree and a two-year, 120 ECTS programme, leading to an MA degree.
Whereas the BA Programme aims to introduce a variety of methods and means for students ́ artistic practice, the MA Programme seeks to strengthen students’ prior understanding of their work and its context, allowing more flexibility and specialization through the development of individual projects and an open structure of studies.
